Over the last few years, online yoga has transformed from a temporary alternative into a powerful and accessible way of practising. What once felt unfamiliar to many of us has now become a beautiful way to stay connected to our bodies, our breath, and each other, regardless of where we are in the world.
As someone who deeply values human connection and the shared energy of practising together, I was initially hesitant about teaching yoga online. I questioned whether the same presence, depth, and collective feeling could truly exist through a screen.
Then life invited me to reconsider.
At the time, I had moved from the UK to Thailand and suddenly found myself thousands of miles away from my students. I missed teaching deeply and wanted to continue supporting the people I had built relationships with over the years. So, surrounded by tropical plants on a small balcony in Thailand, I taught my first online yoga session.
And something surprising happened.
Despite the physical distance, the connection was still there. The breath, the guidance, the energy, the grounding effect of practice — all of it translated beautifully across space. What mattered most was not the room we were in, but the intention and presence we brought into the practice.
Since then, online yoga has become an important part of my teaching and something I now genuinely value.
Why Choose Online Yoga?
Online yoga offers flexibility, accessibility, and comfort while still allowing you to experience a deeply supportive and personal practice.
One of the greatest benefits is that it removes location boundaries completely. Whether you are travelling, living abroad, working from home, or simply unable to attend a studio class, you can still maintain consistency in your practice and continue working with a teacher you trust.
Online sessions are especially supportive if:
- you have a busy schedule
- you work from home
- you feel anxious in group environments
- you are balancing childcare or family commitments
- you travel frequently
- there are limited yoga studios nearby
- you prefer practising in your own space
Practising from home also allows you to create a calmer and more personal environment. There is no commuting, rushing, or arriving flustered. Instead, you can simply roll out your mat, settle into your breath, and begin.
Can Online Yoga Really Feel Personal?
Absolutely.
Private online yoga sessions are tailored entirely to your needs, just like in-person classes. Through verbal guidance, observation, and careful cueing, I am still able to support alignment, posture, breath awareness, mobility, relaxation, and nervous system regulation.
In many ways, students often become even more attuned to their own bodies during online sessions because they are practising within the familiarity and safety of their home environment.
The sessions can include:
- mindful movement
- breathwork
- mobility and flexibility work
- meditation
- Yoga Nidra
- stress regulation practices
- grounding and nervous system support
Whether you are a complete beginner or an experienced practitioner, the practice is adapted to where you are physically and energetically.
Online Yoga While Travelling
One of my favourite aspects of online teaching is that it allows us to stay connected across countries, time zones, and changing seasons of life.
You can practise from:
- your living room
- the garden
- a hotel room
- the beach
- the mountains
- anywhere with enough space to move and a stable internet connection
There is something beautiful about sharing practice across different corners of the world while still creating the same intentional space together.
What You Need for an Online Yoga Session
Joining an online class is simple.
All you need is:
- a yoga mat
- a phone, tablet, or laptop
- internet connection
- a quiet space to move comfortably
Yoga props can be helpful, but they are not essential. Cushions, blankets, scarves, and books can often work beautifully as alternatives.
Private or Group Online Yoga
You can choose between:
- private one-to-one online yoga sessions
- couples sessions
- small group classes
- corporate wellbeing sessions
- Yoga Nidra and meditation classes
If you are unsure which option is best for you, I am always happy to guide you based on your goals and experience level.

A Gentle Invitation to Begin
Sometimes the hardest part is simply beginning.
You do not need to be flexible, experienced, or perfectly prepared to start practising yoga online. You simply need a little space, an open mind, and the willingness to arrive exactly as you are.
Even through a screen, yoga has the power to ground, connect, strengthen, soften, and transform us.
And perhaps that is the beauty of it — discovering that connection does not disappear with distance.
